Officers in northeast Thailand arrested a police inspector involved in a drug trafficking operation transporting two million methamphetamine pills.

The inspector claimed it was his first offence. He attempted to negotiate his release upon arrest, but his efforts were unsuccessful.

Yesterday, March 31, police investigators from Region 3 pursued a drug trafficking gang along Route 24 in Nong Bunnak district, Nakhon Ratchasima province. They intercepted two suspicious vehicles near the border with a neighbouring country, adjacent to Mukdahan province.

A white sedan, driven by a single occupant displaying suspicious behaviour, was searched. Officers discovered five sacks containing a total of two million methamphetamine pills in the trunk.

Additionally, a grey-black pickup truck was seized, found to be acting as an escort for the sedan transporting the methamphetamine. Inside the pickup were two people, one of whom was a police inspector holding the rank of Police Lieutenant Colonel from the Nong Bua Lamphu Provincial Police Bureau.

The inspector was dressed informally and carried police identification. He was seated beside the driver and was subsequently taken for questioning.

During interrogation, the inspector admitted to participating in the drug trafficking operation for the first time. Despite attempts to negotiate his way out of the situation, he was unable to evade arrest.

The case was reported to Police Lieutenant General Wathana Yeejeen, Commissioner of Region 3, and other senior officials. The inspector is now facing legal proceedings, and further investigations are underway to expand on the arrest, reported KhaoSod.

This arrest occurred late at night after Region 3 police had been tracking information suggesting a significant methamphetamine shipment would enter Nakhon Ratchasima province. They planned the operation carefully, leading to the interception of two million methamphetamine pills.
